Sinanian is proud to announce that on Thursday, August 26, 2016, the El Camino College will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Athletic Education & Fitness Complex and Murdock Stadium which we completed in June 2016. The Athletic Education and Fitness Complex / Murdock Stadium features a brand new, $48 million facility to support the college’s outstanding men’s and women’s athletic programs and kinesiology classes. The modern stadium replaces the original structure, which was built in 1949. The state-of-the-art complex includes a 7,869-seat stadium, synthetic turf fields for both football and soccer, and a collegiate nine-lane running track with pole vault, high jump, long jump, and steeple chase areas. An athletic training facility, modern locker room, equipment room, and storage areas are also included. Landscaping designs use drought-tolerant plants and reclaimed water wherever possible.
Also included are elevated viewing areas, a roof-top filming deck, and a press box for both teams. Communication and technology upgrades include: site-wide Wi-Fi coverage, bringing connectivity to the field; wireless radio/coach communications linking to the press box; and field-accessible power, communication, and audio/visual systems for special events. With the completion of the stadium, the community walking trail is now open for faculty, staff, and community use throughout the day and evening. The neighboring practice field project, completed in 2013, continues to serve classes and athletics and also includes shot put, discus, javelin, and synthetic turf.
